Four Calgarians are in hospital in Las Vegas — one in critical condition — following a hit-and-run involving a suspected drunk driver. Anisha Sharma, 21, and Sarah Nhung, 21, are both in serious condition. Steven Kwan, 23, is in moderate condition, and Sammy Elrafih, 22, is in critical condition. The accident happened on Wednesday night on Dean Martin Drive, just west of the Las Vegas strip near the Rio Hotel. Swerving semi According to the Las Vegas police report, the driver of a semi-truck, identified as a 44-year-old Las Vegas man, swerved into the two-way turn lane heading into oncoming traffic. The driver of a cab transporting the four Calgarians swerved into the turn lane as well, in order to avoid the semi, but ended up in a head-on collision. According to police, the semi driver then fled the scene on foot but was chased by a witness. He was later taken into custody and failed a field sobriety test. A witness stated he saw the semi swerving in traffic prior to the accident. The semi driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
